West Seattle Earlybirds Toastmaster Club #650 Meets at the ArtsWest Playhouse and Gallery
4711 California Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116
Meeting notes for July 31, 2015
Those in attendance: Brian Kostecki, CC, Jean Manwaring, ACB, Josh Huisenga, Megan Hyla, Mykal Amaré, ACB, CL, Norman Bell, CC, Jim Jones, Steven Ward, Mary Brennan, ACB and one guest, Byron.
Jim Jones, his last time as President, for a while anyway, opened the meeting at 7:45 AM.
Jim gave us a bit of an insight of what it is like in Texas.HOT!
Mykal Amaré gave us the inspiration for the day; it was about the negativity of gossiping.
Mary Brennan was our Toastmaster today; Mary wanted to “rock the flock” as she always does when she is the TM. She loves her some rock music, boots and homemade berry pie.
Jean Manwaring lead us with Table Topics. Jean wanted us to help her come up with some food ideas for this heat. The ideas ranged from crawling into the refrigerator and eating what is around you, anything cold in a glass, to shaved ice with sliced tomatoes with a bit of sugar, I say yum to this one.
We had two great speeches today.
Today was quite the day for speeches. It could not have been planned better than this. Opposite ends of the spectrum. Megan Hyla started us off with speech from the CC manual, number 2, “Organize you speech”. She spoke for just under nine minutes regaling us with the trauma and drama of divorce. Megan dedicated this speech, titled “Make It Through” to Jim Jones.
Then we jumped to the far swing of the pendulum with a non-manual speech by Steven Ward.
Steven is officiating the wedding of his stepsister and wanted to practice and get our feedback. Steven’s speech, “Let’s Get Married” was a hoot. Steven was very poised and his speech was full of humor.
Mary entertained us with a story of a time she ran into her ex-husband’s family and his sister said to Mary, “I’m sorry but I forgot your name.”
Josh did his first meeting evaluation today, great job, I loved his wrap-up of the meeting, even though it was a small group, and the meeting was very energetic and ebullient.
Megan won the speech of the day and the table topics came up with a 4-way time, Brian, Megan, Mary and Jim. Congratulations.
Mykal Amare’ gave pitch for the Area contest coming up on September 25th, will we hold a club contest? Only time will tell.
Join us next week when those who attend the West Seattle Earlybirds Toastmasters group will again entertain us
