This was such a fantastic meeting today.Thank you all for making it so.
Norman Bell, CC, called the meeting to order at 7:45 AM.
Today was part two of two for our Humorist Speech and Table Topics contest.
Shari returned from her summer of teaching and gave us a great inspiration and led us in the pledge.
Cause Haun was our Toastmaster for the day; this was her first experience of being our TM. Cause, you did a great job as TM.
Our first speech (non contest) was by Shawn Terjeson. “Meh Anthropology” based on information he gathered from the book “Sapiens: A Brief History of Mankind”. Shawn is a great entertainer, his speech held our interest as he proclaimed that Homosapiens are the masters of cooperation. He also iterated that we have the greatest imagination and that has made us the dominant species. By using our imagination we created money, the idea of nation, human rights and the fictional stories we tell ourselves.
Our two contest speakers were Josh Huisenga and Steven Ward.
Josh gave us great personal story of “Tent in the Wind” which really sounded like “The Camping Trip From H_ll”. I believe this was a manual speech (CC). Josh was very descriptive in the telling of the last camping trip his father ever took the family on. Great job Josh.
Steven Ward’s speech was “Late Night at Mamma’s Kitchen”. In his speech Steven regaled us with the tale of an evening out with an old friend, “Clapton”. Steven gave us the exciting details of this night out and finished it with a great ending. Thank you Steven for your visual displays of the evening.
Brian gave us an exceptionally fine word today: “Crackerjack”
Greg Phillips led the Table Topic of the contest; “Step into Safety by Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone.” We had three contestants, Shari, Shawn and our guest, Chris. This was a truly fun segment of the meeting.
The Area Contest is Thursday 9-24-15 @ 6:00 PM at the ERAC Building 15675 Ambaum Boulevard Southwest, Burien, WA 98166. Come cheer on your fellow Earlybirds, Cause and Shawn in the Table Topics and (hopefully) Josh and/or Steven in the Humorist speech Contest.
The officers will be meeting at NLSC, 9626 14t Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98106, on Monday the 21st at 6:30 PM
Josh reminded us the DUES ($36.00) are due. Please make this happen before the end of the month.
