First, a reminder: no meeting on September 2.
Those in attendance: Brian Kostecki, CC; Mykal Amaré, ACB, CL, Jim Guenther, ATMB, Janet Dowd; Chuck Furumori, CL; Wendy Cwinar; David Fisher; David Trise; David Warren (that’s 3-D); Josh Huisenga, Marina King, Susan Davis, Shawn Terjeson ATMB, Mimi Stewart, and Pat Buchanan.
Meeting opened at 7:45 AM by Club President Chuck Furumori.
Mykal led the meeting as Toastmaster this morning. His theme for the day was State Fair, and he shared each member’s favorite thing about the state fair as roles were introduced.
Janet Dowd inspired us with talk of changing habits, and reminded us that Day 1 (today) is the best time to start. She then led us in the flag salute.
Josh Huisenga provided some humor this morning—over-honest slogans for national brands.
Speeches: Our morning contained two information-packed speeches by David Trise and David Fisher.
1. David Trise’s manual speech, “How to read a whisky label,” demonstrated to the club how to decode all the different bits of information on different whisky bottles. Marina King provided the evaluation (her first!) for David.
2. David Fisher’s speech, “Groove,” showed us what gives music it’s different grooves from his drummer point of view. David Warren provided the evaluation for David.
Table Topic for the day was presented by Wendy Cwinar. She asked us for our fond fair memories. Nearly all members participated, sharing a wide variety of fun stories about their fair experiences. This topic also exposed some criminal inclination within the club. Don’t leave any change in your pockets, folks.
Marina King provided our grammarian report, which was a delightful round-up of the morning’s wonderful turns of phrase.
Shawn Terjeson provided the general meeting evaluation. He covered the big roles and debut performances. All in all, a fun, light-hearted meeting.
Awards were presented by Brian Kostecki: David Trise swept the awards today, taking both the award for long-form speech, and for Table-topic. Crime does, it seems, pay.
Meeting adjourned early at 9 AM.
