Those in attendance: Mykal Amaré, ACB, CL; Janet Dowd; Josh Huisenga; David Fisher; Chuck Furumori, CL; Jonathan Olson (guest); Glenn G (guest); Jim Guenther, ATMB; Shari Kaufman; David Warren; Susan Davis; Marina King; Jeremy Blum; David Trise; Mimi Stewart; and our newest member, Mic Rhafohn.
Meeting opened at 7:46 AM by Club President Chuck Furumori
Janet Dowd led the meeting as Toastmaster. Her theme for the day was the fall season, filled with rituals and rhythms and celebrated around the world.
Susan inspired us with a train of thoughts from elections, through campaigns, to inaugurations, to poets, and to Maya Angelou. She shared a handful of marvelous quotes to wake our minds. She then led us in the salute.
Janet gave us the meetings order of appearance, calling out roles like Brian Kostecki on the Timer.
As is always the case, Dave Warren had us laughing with his humor.
The word of the day was given to us by Dave Fisher—TRANSMOGRIFY—which means “to transform, especially in a surprising or magical manner.” This word was used more than most week’s words.
Speeches: Our morning contained three speeches by members Jim Guenther, Jonathan Olson, and Marina King.
1. Jim’s speech was on the topic of protests—their history and an interpretation of current protests. Josh Huisenga provided the evaluation.
2. Jonathan’s speech introduced us to some of the intricacies of patent vs. trademark law. This was a test run of a presentation he’s preparing for his law firm. Shari provided the evaluation.
3. Miranda’s icebreaker speech covered introduced us to a bit of her family tree and her careers. Well done, Miranda. Dave Warren provided the evaluation.
Miranda also brought our Table Topic for the morning. She asked, “What is the best mistake you’ve made?” Members shared some fun stories about how small mistakes have led to happy life stories.
Mimi Stewart reported on grammar and our speech and table topic winners. Marina walked away with the award for long-form speech and the table topic was a three-way tie.
Mykal provided the general meeting evaluation. Great work everyone. And advice for future toastmasters… “if things slip up a bit, just roll with it and know that the membership has your back.”
